Women On the Move Against Cancer’s 2022 charities receive surprise donation

Women On the Move Against Cancer (WOMAC) recently surprised its 2022 charities – Maggie’s and Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation – with a donation of £1,000 each to kickstart this year’s support. The cheques were provided to each charity by a selection of the WOMAC Committee.

The two recently confirmed charities will be the focus of WOMACs fundraising endeavours in 2022. Maggie’s provides free cancer support and information at centres across the UK, and online, helping people take control following a cancer diagnosis. The team offers professional support covering treatment side effects, money worries and much much more.

Founded in 1990, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease. The charity has already funded millions of pounds of essential lung cancer research and also supports anyone affected by the disease.

WOMAC aims to provide each charity with £7,500 by the end of the year and has now donated £1,000 to each. Both charities will use the funds to support those in their darkest hour. Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation will use the money to fund patient grants and support groups as well as research projects, while Maggie’s will use the funds to offer vital practical and emotional support to people with cancer and their families.

Georgia Fox, Chair of WOMAC, said: “I’m delighted we have been able to donate to these incredible charities so early in the year thanks to the support of our amazing WOMAC community.

“It is never easy to select our annual charities, but after seeing the facilities available and hearing the support each charity provides it’s clear to see what a difference WOMAC’s fundraising will make to patients and their families.

“I can’t wait to provide more to these worthy causes in the fight against the disease that sadly one in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with during their lifetime.”

Dame Laura Lee, Chief Executive, Maggie’s, added: “I, along with everyone at Maggie’s, am very grateful for WOMAC’s generous donation. This money will help us to provide our free psychological and practical support to people across the UK living with cancer, as well as their family and friends, at a time when they need it the most.”

Claire Kelly, Corporate Business Manager, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, concluded: “It was amazing to meet some of the members of the WOMAC Committee in person. To receive and be presented with a cheque for £1,000 is such a wonderful donation, this will now enable us to provide up to 10 patient grants to individuals and their families living with lung cancer.

“We are so excited to work in collaboration with Maggie’s and support the exciting fundraising plans WOMAC has throughout 2022. Together we can – and will – save lives.”

Plans are currently underway for a WOMAC summer party in place of its usual February event. The evening is an opportunity to get together with friends while donating to incredible causes through the raffle which sees prizes from the best of the best in the car industry, plus the infamous tombola which has everything from branded merchandise to chocolates to books – there really is something for everyone. WOMAC’s cupboard for prizes is now open so please contact Georgia Fox on +44 7973 915199 or georgia@simsimages.co.uk if you have any donations.
