WEST MIDLANDS TRAINS’ SUPPORT FOR BIRMINGHAM CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL SEES THE RAIL OPERATOR AWARDED A RED BALLOON

West Midlands Trains (WMT) – operator of West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway – is proud to announce it’s been awarded a Red Balloon by Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity in recognition of their fundraising to support the hospital.

WMT has been a proud supporter of Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity for several years now and has been working in close partnership with them for the last two years. Since 2021, WMT colleagues have raised a phenomenal £14,160.05 for the hospital through a variety of fundraising activities. As well as a colleague donation scheme, and by collecting money at stations across the WMT network.

In March 2021, WMT joined a new charitable scheme known as Pennies from Heaven, which sees employees donate extra pennies from their salary to the charity each month – to help raise funds for Birmingham Children Hospital Charity. Since joining the scheme, WMT has seen the number of its staff participating grow month on month.

Andy Parry, head of internal communications and engagement at West Midlands Trains says: “Pennies from Heaven is a great scheme, and we are thrilled to see so many of our employees showing their support – it has been fantastic to see the numbers of donators continue to grow each month.

“We are very proud of the money we have been able to raise for our Brummie neighbours at Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital Charity and are extremely excited to learn how the money will be used. It is a real honour to accept a Red Balloon for our efforts and we thank everyone involved enormously.”

WMT is continuing to pledge its support, not only for Pennies from Heaven and Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, but also for several charities chosen by its employees. WMT regularly supports the fundraising efforts of its employees and is currently promoting a cycle challenge for a group of its operational managers known as the ‘Bonkers Bikers’. Their challenge, which is in support of raising funds for The Railway Children Charity, will see them complete an epic two-day Coast to Coast cycle from Whitehaven to Whitley Bay.
