Sandwell Council’s road safety team recently visited Rounds Green Primary School to attend a celebration assembly to present a banner and signs designed by the children to promote road safety.
The team were keen to alert motorists to the crossing and so asked the all the children in the school to create a banner and signs to be displayed around the school area enabling drivers and pedestrians to work together to make the area as safe as possible.
In addition, the team recently gave practical pedestrian training to 60 Year 1 children to raise awareness of the zebra crossing near their school and how to use it safely.
Councillor Danny Millard, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Highways, said:
“Keeping our children safe must be one of our top priorities. It’s great that children at Rounds Green have been learning about road safety and have created these wonderful banners and signs but it is even more important that adult road users drive carefully and safely around schools and everywhere else to keep our children safe.”
Principal, Helen Heap of Rounds Green Primary School, said:
“Teaching key safety skills to our children is very important to us at Rounds Green. Our children have had road safety awareness sessions and in particular, we have focussed on raising awareness of the zebra crossing on Brades Road and how to use it safely. Our children were pleased to take part in a competition to design posters and the winners were thrilled to see their designs come to life on the signs that are now displayed in the area around our school. We very much hope that these signs are successful in alerting motorists to the fact that there is a school on Brades Road and that they encourage them to drive carefully and safely adhere to the Highway Code to keep our children safe.”
