Bowls club
Sandwell Council has funded a further three community projects as part of its Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
CIL allows the council to raise funds from some forms of new development to help fund the physical infrastructure needed to mitigate the impacts of new development.
The Friar Park Millennium Centre in Wednesbury received over £3,500 in funding to purchase equipment such as a projector, sensory toys, bubble machine, sensory table (with activities) and chairs or beanbags for their recently developed sensory room. The Millennium Centre plans to allow the onsite nursery, families and the Looked after Children Team to book the sensory room for use. Longer term plans include training of volunteers and staff to run sensory sessions.
The Parish of West Bromwich, St James and St Paul (known locally as St James Church) has received funding of almost £4,000 to allow them to offer a new and innovative multi media suite for use at their youth club. The equipment will be available for free use by youth club members and will teach users to produce videos, create and edit music and take photographs to a professional standard opening up potential career paths.
Wednesbury Bowls Club has received £1,200 to purchase an accessible portable toilet for their bowling green site on Hydes Road which had no toilet facilities. The club hopes that the new facilities will encourage more people to play and that teams will be able to compete in leagues.
